Dr. Bradley Elgie was born and raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He completed his pre-optometry program and optometric degree at the University of Waterloo, graduating from the School of Optometry in 1982. Following graduation, Dr. Elgie decided to move to Thunder Bay to join an established optometric group practice. In 1994, he and Dr. Ulakovic established Harbourview Optometry Centre in the original Cumberland Street location. Outside of his practice Dr. Elgie enjoys skiing, golfing and spending time with his family both in Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie. Dr. Elgie is committed to fulfilling his role as a primary eye care provider to his patients and to the community. He is fully certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications to treat ocular conditions, including glaucoma.

A native of Thunder Bay, Dr. Kristine Miller graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 1997 on the Dean’s Honours List. During her studies she completed an ocular disease and therapeutics externship at the Vitreal Retinal Foundation in Memphis Tennessee. Since graduation Dr. Miller has been involved in full scope private practice in Thunder Bay. She has a special interest in both pediatric eye care and laser vision correction having undergone bladeless LASIK herself in 2005. Dr. Miller is fully certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications to treat ocular conditions.

Dr. Aaron Asselstine was born and raised in Thunder Bay. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lakehead University in 1997 and received his Doctor of Optometry from the University of Waterloo in 2001. During his final year at the University of Waterloo, Dr. Asselstine completed an ocular disease externship at Matossian Eye Associates which has offices located in Doylestown, PA and Ewing, NJ. This presented him with the opportunity to work with specialists in the fields of pediatrics, glaucoma, oculoplasty and cataract surgery. Dr. Asselstine is fully certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications required for the treatment of ocular conditions.

A Thunder Bay native, Dr. Joseph Valente obtained his Honours Bachelor of Science degree (Biology Major) with first class standing from Lakehead University. He graduated on the Dean’s Honours List from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in 2006. During his studies, Dr. Valente completed an ocular disease and therapeutics externship at OMNI Eye Specialists in Baltimore, Maryland. During this externship he received extensive training in the diagnosis and management of a variety of eye conditions including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. He also completed a specialty contact lens training course in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon completion of his studies, Dr. Valente returned home to begin practicing at Harbourview Optometry Centre. Dr. Valente is certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications for the treatment of various ocular conditions.

Born and raised in Thunder Bay. Dr. Paul Savioli graduated from Lakehead University in 2008 with HBSc. Biology and Bsc. Psychology and then from the University of Waterloo with his Optometry degree in 2011. Dr. Savioli is licensed in therapeutics. He enjoys being an active part of his profession, having served on the board of the Ontario Association of Optometrists. Dr. Savioli enjoys seeing patients of all ages. He is committed to providing excellent care to all his patients and continually keeps up with the latest advancements in Optometry. In his spare time, Dr. Savioli enjoys spending time with his wife and son. Otherwise, you will find him in the kitchen cooking or puttering around his yard trying to keep up with the never-ending outside work.

Dr. Byron Advent was born and raised in Thunder Bay. He graduated from Lakehead University in 2009 with an Honours Bachelor of Science. He then moved to Houston, Texas and received his Doctor of Optometry Degree from the University of Houston with Magna Cum Laude. In Texas, he completed externships with focus on co-management of cataract surgery and laser vision correction, pediatrics and primary care. Dr. Advent also completed an externship with focus on eye disease at BridgeBuilders Eye Clinic, which provided eye care for underprivileged communities in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Advent then moved to Vancouver and worked in a private practice setting. He is happy to have moved back to Thunder Bay and bring his experiences and patient-centered care to Harbourview Optometry Centre. Dr. Advent is fully certified by the College of Optometrist of Ontario to provide medication for the treatment of eye conditions and diseases.

Dr. Lauren Hill is originally from Thunder Bay, where she attended Lakehead University and graduated with an H.B.Sc. in Applied Bio-Molecular Science in 2010. She then moved to Houston, Texas to pursue optometry at the University of Houston and graduated with her Doctor of Optometry in 2014 with Magna Cum Laude honours. While in Texas, Dr. Hill completed externship rotations participating in primary care optometry, glaucoma treatment, cataract surgery co-management and LASIK co-management. She then moved to British Columbia to work in a private practice providing primary eye care. Dr. Hill has since moved back home to Thunder Bay and is happy to have joined the team at Harbourview Optometry Clinic. Outside of optometry, Dr. Hill enjoys being outdoors, spending time at camp, hiking and travel. Dr. Hill is fully certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to provide medication for the treatment of various eye conditions and diseases.

Dr. Olivia Young was born and raised in Thunder Bay. She attended Queen’s University where she completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences and then went on to study at the University of Waterloo to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree (Dean’s Honours List) in 2020. She completed an externship in ocular disease management in Oklahoma at Cooweescoowee Health Center, a Cherokee Nation Health Clinic. She has also expanded her learning by completing advanced procedure courses in Laser Therapy for the Anterior Segment and Surgical Procedures for the Optometric Physician at the Northeastern State University College of Optometry. She is now also certified to perform advanced dry eye therapy treatments after completing training on the InMode Lumecca-I and Forma-I technologies.  Dr. Young is fully certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications required for the treatment of ocular conditions. In her spare time Dr. Young enjoys spending time in nature, particularly while riding her bicycle or being out on Lake Superior. She is excited to be back in Thunder Bay and providing patient-centered care to her community.  

Dr. Carly Ross was born and raised in Thunder Bay. She completed her Honours Bachelor of Science degree at Lakehead University, followed by a Masters of Business Administration degree. She then completed her Doctor of Optometry Degree at the University of Waterloo. She began her clinical externships living in Halifax, NS to focus on ocular disease, refractive and cataract surgery co-management and ocular oncology. Then in Winnipeg, MB her externships focussed on primary care optometry, low vision and paediatrics. She has now moved back home and is happy to provide high quality eye care at Harbourview Optometry for her local community. Dr. Ross is fully certified by the College of Optometrists of Ontario to prescribe medications for the treatment of various ocular conditions and diseases.

Dr. Jacob Furtado was born in South Texas and raised in Thunder Bay. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto before earning his Optometry degree Magna Cum Laude from the University of The Incarnate World Rosenberg School of Optometry in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Furtado completed two externships in San Antonio where he worked alongside optometrists and ophthalmologists to advance his skill in the field of eye care. Outside of the office, Dr. Furtado enjoys time with family and friends, playing the guitar and staying active. He is happy to be back in the city he grew up in to provide exceptional eye care to members of his community.
